A significant hit, Rappers Delight moved in excess of 8,000,000 units around the world. Before long, raps fame and style started to grow.During the ass, NNW (N***as With Attitude) was acquainted with the world as the exemplification of group savagery, sexism, and epicurean qualities. Anas verses were cruel and clear, so a lot to the point that there melody F**k that Police raised worries among the FBI, notice them to keep an eye out or face inconvenience. This tune challenged police fierceness against minorities, this message was to some degree overlooked. In spite of this, numerous people keep on conveying their individual conclusions about Hip-Hop, some of them antagonistic, some constructive, and some are basically undecided.Like every melodic style, some are increasingly famous then others, and some before long don't have a similar they used to in those days. Be that as it may, Hip-Hop will keep on staying inside the impact of the media, proceeding to affect the people inside and outside of the U. S. Also, while its notoriety may change, won't vanish. Hip-Hops Influence on Education/Students Twenty years back you asked a youngster experiencing childhood in the American School System what the person needed to be the point at which they grew up and answers would differ from space explorer, to specialist, to fireman, to President of the United States. Be that as it may, times have changed!Teenagers are experiencing childhood in a general public where media has an incredible to be competitors, rappers/artists, or on-screen characters. These little youngsters are burning through broad measures of times tuning in to music or watching music recordings dolling the life of those rappers/vocalists on account of how the media exemplifies these people. People, for example, Drake, Ill Wayne, I-Cole, and Jay-Z are standard significant craftsmen that these youngsters need to imitate due to what they have and what they appear in these music recordings. What youngster or youthful grown-up not hav e any desire to be an effective youthful, rich, sex image? S in the expressions of the rapper The Birdman. I experienced childhood in the time of Hip-Hop where the music was tormented with hamburger between specific rappers. Rappers like OPAC shouted, West-side!!! as the hamburger between Hip-Hops most prominent rappers ever quarreled for most prominent rapper ever. With everything in life Hip-Hop can have an extremely ground-breaking impact on society, yet it can likewise be exceptionally dangerous to those that hear it out. So damaging that the two rappers Outpace Shaker (OPAC) and Notorious B. I. G. (Christopher Wallace) were gunned down inside a multi month time range from one another.Rap music has changed from that point forward as the business has not had any desire to submit similar mix-ups. In a class of 1 strip graders at my school, I asked on whether they felt that Hip-Hop has been a positive impact in their lives. So as to comprehend their answers, one must comprehend their experience. The school is situated in Hialeah, where most families are from the poor class. Most understudies are of Hispanic starting point and African American beginning. The class was separated as far as whether Hip-Hop had a positive impact or negative influence.Students in my group expressed that Hip-Hop communicates information is power and as such they should engage themselves and instruct themselves so as to make an imprint in this world. Consider when Kenya West came out to the rap world ND expressed that he had dropped out of school and as such named one of his collections College Dropout. The understudies in my group expressed that instruction is not, at this point the customary thought of setting off to a school or college. They felt that instruction could be hands on preparing, road information, and life lessons. The thought of training is not, at this point the check for estimating who is and who isn't effective. This guide to me was a piece negating on the grounds that despite the fact that I concur that information can be obtained from numerous points of view, the Jobs on the worldwide market require these degrees that originate from the customary college setting. The second point they focused on was that Hip-Hop has shown children from a poor financial foundation to convey their imagination not through the standard methods for craftsmanship, verse, and painting, yet through the us

What Is Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the practice of taking credit for someone elses words or ideas. Its an act of intellectual dishonesty. In colleges and universities, it violates honor codes and can cause irreparable damage to a persons reputation. It also comes with serious consequences; a plagiarized assignment may lead to a failing grade, a suspension, or an expulsion. Clearly, the issue  is not to be taken lightly. However, if you act with academic integrity, its also nothing to fear. The best way to avoid plagiarism is to understand the concept itself.  Ã‚   Types of Plagiarism   Some forms of plagiarism are obvious. Copying someone elses  essay word for word and submitting it as your own? Plagiarism, of course. Turning in an essay you bought from a paper mill is too. The issue is not always so blatant, however. In addition to  overt acts of academic dishonesty, other, more complex forms of plagiarism exist, and they lead to similar consequences nonetheless. Direct plagiarism  is the act of copying another persons work word for word. Inserting a paragraph from a book or article into your essay without including attribution or quotation marks, for example, is direct plagiarism. Paying someone to write an essay for you and submitting it as your own work is also direct plagiarism. If you commit direct plagiarism, youre likely to be caught thanks to software and  tools such as  Turnitin.Paraphrased plagiarism  involves making a few (often cosmetic) changes to someone else’s work, then passing it off as your own. Unless a specific idea is common knowledge, you cannot include it in your paper without providing a citation—even if you do not include any direct quotes.  Mosaic plagiarism  is a combination of direct and paraphrased plagiarism. This type involves tossing various words, phrases, and sentences (some word for word, some paraphrased) into your essay without providing quotation marks or attributions.  Ã‚  Acc idental plagiarism  occurs when citations are missing, sources are cited incorrectly, or an author shares an idea without a citation that isnt as common of knowledge as they thought. Accidental plagiarism is often the result of a disorganized research process and a last-minute time crunch. Ultimately, if you fail to cite your sources appropriately, youve committed plagiarism—even if you had every  intention of giving credit. How to Avoid Plagiarism   Not everyone who plagiarizes starts out with the goal of stealing  someone elses work. Sometimes, plagiarism is simply the result of poor planning and a few bad, panicked decisions. Dont fall victim to the plagiarism trap. Follow these tips to  produce successful,  original academic writing. Begin the research process as early as possible,  preferably as soon as you receive a new assignment. Read each source carefully. Take breaks between reading sessions to absorb the information. Explain each sources key ideas out loud, without referencing the original text. Then, write down each source’s main arguments in your own words. This process will ensure you have plenty of time to both absorb your sources ideas and formulate your own. Write a thorough outline.  After you’ve spent time researching and brainstorming, write a detailed  outline  of your paper. Focus on  pinpointing your own original argument. As you outline, imagine yourself in conversation with your sources. Instead of restating your sources ideas,  examine them and consider how they relate to your own. Paraphrase â€Å"blind.†Ã‚  If you plan to explain an author’s ideas in your paper, write the explanation without looking at the original text. If you find this process tricky, try writing out the ideas in a conversational tone, as though you’re explaining the idea to a friend. Then  rewrite the information in a more appropriate tone for your paper.   Keep track of your sources.  Make a list of every source you read, even the ones you don’t expect to refer to in your paper. As you write, create a running bibliography using a free bibliography generator tool.  Anytime you quote or paraphrase an author’s ideas in your draft, include the source information right next to the relevant sentence. If you’re writing a long paper, consider using a free citation organization tool such as  Zotero or EndNote. Use an online plagiarism checker.  Although online tools are not foolproof, it’s a good idea to run your paper through a plagiarism checker before submitting it. You may discover that you’ve unintentionally composed a sentence that closely resembles something written by one of your sources or failed to include a citation for one of your direct quotes. Free resources such as  Quetext  compare your work to millions of documents and search for close matches. Your professor probably uses these tools, and you should too.

An Analysis Of Louise Erdrich s The Red Convertible

Mailk Sims Often times, an inanimate object can be as important and sometimes more important than the characters of the story. In Louise Erdrich s The Red Convertible, the car played the same important role as the characters did, but for different reasons. Two brothers, Lyman and Henry, had very little in common other than their blood. One day they decided to catch a ride to Winnipeg. The car was introduced while these two were doing some sightseeing in the city. They spotted the red Oldsmobile convertible. Lyman, the storyteller, almost made the car a living thing when he said, There it was, parked, large as life. Really as if it were alive. (461) The brothers used all of the money they had, less some change for gas to get home, to buy the car. The car s significance was the bond that it created between the brothers. The purchase of the vehicle brought these two together with a common interest: the car. Once the bond was formed, the brothers became inseparable, at least for a while . The boys spent the whole summer in the car. They explored new places; met new people and furthered the bond that the car had created. When they returned from their trip, Henry was sent to war. He left the car with Lyman. While Henry was gone, Lyman spent his time pampering and fixing the car. Lyman saw the car as an extension of Henry. Lyman used the car to maintain an emotional bond with his brother who was thousands of miles away. During the war, Henry was taken P.O.W. and spent timeShow MoreRelatedThe Red Convertible By Louise Erdrich931 Words   |  4 Pages In the short story â€Å"The Red Convertible,† by Louise Erdrich, there are multiple literary devices used throughout. Management and Organization in Global Environment Taylorism

Question: Write about theManagement and Organization in Global Environment for Taylorism. Answer: Ford and Taylorism The concept of Ford and Taylorism has rendered a business revolution 100 years ago. Ford Automobile in order to establish their business in the market had to face innumerable difficulties. The productivity of the organization had been decreased rapidly. After the entrance of Frendrick WinslowTaylor in the business process of Ford, the situation became change. The general concept of Taylorism in rendering the success of business was hard work and unity. Employees should cooperate with each other in order to perform well towards the success of business. This particular concept was however rendered 100 years ago. As per the general concept of the employees of Australia, America and Europe only employee co-operation and hard work is not sufficient to reach the peak of success for a business organization. In order to survive amidst the competitive market threat business organizations of today have to follow effective marketing and promotional strategy as well as organizational strategy and policy. Boyer, R. and Durand (2016) has differed the point of view of previous concept. This particular scholar has mentioned that before making a proper organizational strategy and policy employees have to maintain a participative co-operation. Therefore, the role of Taylorism would never be demolished in the development of business organizations even after 100 years. The success of business process in a call centre is highly dependent on the interpersonal communication among the employees. Employees would be able to fulfill the needs and demands of the customers only when they would exchange necessary information with each other. In this kind of situation employee co-operation, effective interpersonal communication, participative relation between the employees and the managers are highly important for providing productive works. Therefore, call centers need to follow Taylorism while running their entire process of business. Fischer and Stuber (2012) opposed the point of view of previous scholar. The author in this specific context has stated that only good communication between the employees and managers is not sufficient for a call center to render the success of business. Service providers should have to loyalty towards the consumers as well. The service providers should treat every single consumer with equal respect and dignity (Sayer 2012). O therwise, the number of target customers would not be enhanced. Therefore, the concept of Taylorism would not be effective for running a call center properly. As per the video clips, the history of Taylorism has already been happened 100 years ago. Therefore, as per the present business scenario the situation is different. Business organizations have to follow internal and external strategies in order to compete with its contemporaries. At the same time it is undeniable that the overall concept of Taylorism rendered immense motivation on the mind of employees (Pitsoe and Letseka 2013). Employee co-operation, better remuneration package, maintaining organizational culture and discipline is highly important for every business organization to become successful. Therefore, Taylorism in the business industry has still remained acceptable and appreciable for the recognizable business organizations such as Ford. Pankaj Ghemewat In the second video clip, one of the most recognizable Indian economists Pankaj Ghemewat has provided own opinion about the concept of globalization. This specific individual has suggested feeling the taste of World rather than a specific place. The entire World is endowed with large number of people belonging to different cultural backgrounds and attitudes. In order to enhance the knowledge and understanding human being should go beyond a specific culture and geographical boundary (Glatzer 2012). This particular individual in this opinion has opined that the entrance of foreign aid has made the country people poorer. People while dealing with the persons should not make overstatement. In order to lead a successful life every human being should make a balanced life. A particular country is constituted with different cultural attitudes and religious backgrounds. Therefore, the role of an individual is to communicate with the people of different cultures by overcoming all the barriers. Some of the specific obstacles such as linguistic barriers, technological barriers and psychological barriers cause a major hindrance for developing a good communication among the people. Pankaj ghemewat has stated that collective decision and knowledge can be gathered by maintaining an effective relation among all the family members of the organization. The ream of social media such as facebook is wide that can reduce the distance between two individual persons of different cultures (Haynes 2016). Therefore, a particular person by sitting at the drawing room can share necessary knowledge and experience with another by using the platform of social media. However, after evaluating the concept of globalization established by Pankaj ghemewat it could be concluded that globalization is highly important to widen the mental horizon of an individual (Akpor-Robaro 2012). This particular video has provided in-depth overview on how globalization can enhance the mental skill and ability of an i ndividual. After going through the entire point of view of Pankaj ghemewat it can be realized that people in the current scenario are becoming accustomed with globalization. The advancement of technology is leaving a positive impact on every single individual. People belonging to different geographical market can communicate with each other by using advanced technology. Therefore, for these perspectives globalization has a major impact in developing the skill and competency of human being. At the same time, it is undeniable that globalization has rendered people of diverse culture at a workplace together. The implementation of anti discrimination act implies that people belonging to different cultural backgrounds should be treated with equal respect and dignity at the workplace (Gachoka 2015). As a result, the lack of communication and interaction has been raised within various organizations. People of various cultures failed to maintain a proper work life balance. In this kind of situation, th e interpersonal communication between two individual persons gets hampered due to these obstacles. However, after evaluating the point of view of Pankaj ghemewat it cannot be denied that the revolution of globalization has left a major positive impact in enhancing the mental ability of human being. Punishment over Rehabilitation free essay sample

As soon as men know that they can kill without fear of punishment or blame, they kill; or at least they encourage killers with approving smiles. † We punish criminals because there is an intrinsic good in the guilty suffering; because the offender had knowledge that he/she would be punished if they committed a crime. Because we make a contract to give up certain rights in order for other rights to be protected, those who break such rules deserve to be punished. But is also to warn others that what they do has consequences which will follow if the law is broken. Current research and closer examination has led me to believe that it is better to punish criminals rather than rehabilitate them, because change or no change, the purpose of punishment is to show the offender that he or she has committed an offence to society that will not be tolerated. We will write a custom essay sample on Punishment over Rehabilitation or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Therefore, this person has to take the foreseeable consequences. In 1797, a well-known German philosopher by the name of Immanuel Kant published a book entitled, Metaphysical Elements of Justice. Immanuel Kant says, â€Å"Judicial punishment can never be used merely as a means to promote some other good for the criminal himself or civil society, but instead it must in all cases be imposed on him only on the ground that he has committed a crime†¦Ã¢â‚¬ Kant argues that retribution is not just a necessary condition for punishment but also a sufficient one. Punishment is an end in itself. Retribution could also be said to be the natural justification, in the sense that man thinks it quite natural and just that a bad person ought to be punished and a good person rewarded. In a sense that the good and evil scales are tipped and need to be rebalanced. It is a well-known fact that nothing in this world is free, especially if the government is part of it. So talking about criminals naturally brings up the cost of a form of punishment, the prison system. Looking at the cost of prison, including maintenance, operation, etc. , we find that prison indeed costs a huge sum of money for the public. Adam Gelb, who has a Master’s in Public Policy from Harvard University said that prison costs 22 times more than community-based corrections which is a form of rehabilitation. Simon Dinitz from the Academy for contemporary Problems in the article, Is Rehabilitation a Waste of Time, says that after locking up every first time offender for five years would put construction costs up to $130 billion. But also that it would raise operating budgets from $12 billion to between $36 and$ 60 billion. Here we can see that operation and running a prison is far more expensive, and if that’s the case then why shouldn’t we switch to rehabilitation? Here’s why. An article published by the Colorado Criminal Reform Justice Coalition, an organization seeking out a better life for criminals, in 2007 states that the cost of putting up a rehabilitation program was about 682 million dollars, in just the state of California. Now this whole rehabilitation thing is new so this would be just the base cost, and for a specific type of rehabilitation. Think of all the different set-backs and methods that they would have to go before they get it right, this means a lot more money would have to be spent. According to Public Safety Canada, the success rate of a rehabilitation program for a person going through it is about 15-35%. Now factor in the number of incarcerated adults per state with the success rate and it is visible that one would be losing a lot of money if we were to use that system. With our economy in a tight spot right now, if forced to choose between the two systems, punishment is the way to go because even though we are spending a lot of money on it, actually shows the public that we care enough to keep them safe. It is true that out of many of those who have went through the rehabilitation program, there have been those who have changed for the better; those who have thought out their life of crime and mishap and vowed to change for the better. Take for example an article out of Freedom Magazine International, which is published by the Church of Scientology. The article is centered on a miracle rehabilitation program in New Zealand. In the course, teens were taught self-worth and read the book entitled The Way to Happiness. A former director of a juvenile court and chief probation officer said â€Å"Over 90% of the juvenile offenders seem to internalize the values and we don’t see them again as court referrals. I have over 500 letters on file that these kids have written saying how The Way to Happiness helped them straighten their lives out. † A juvenile wrote â€Å"I can be something in life, before I just wanted to be a gang member. † Through a testimony we can see that many of these kids are ready and changed to see the world a different way. But how do we know what they are writing and saying it true. Take this quote for example, â€Å"†¦[teens] tend to lie†¦usually for freedoms sake†¦to escape punishment for misbehavior or to get to do what has been forbidden. To many teenagers, lying seems to be the easy way to get out of trouble†¦Ã¢â‚¬ It was published by Psychology today on an article concerning adolescent lying. We can see that they are more prone to lying and not mean what they say just to get out of jail. Even using standard methods of detection won’t work. For instance, Fred T. Blakemore published an article entitled, Can Criminals Beat the Lie Detector? , in association with the National Academy of Sciences. Quote, â€Å"Some criminals have beaten the machine by concentrating on something other than the [question]. †, also, â€Å"Pathological liars do not respond to the lie-detector. Only rarely can the polygraph†¦spot the pathological liar. In most cases their deception is undetectable†¦Ã¢â‚¬ After putting a criminal through a rehabilitation program, you assume that he or she was successfully reformed or wants to be reformed for the good of society and self-betterment. However it is impossible to tell. A person cannot untimely tell whether or not the other person is lying. Even using a known method such as the polygraph will not always work, or it may give the wrong results. So criminals can lie their way through rehab in order to â€Å"get out faster† so they can do more of what they’ve been doing; leading a cycle of crime and wasted money. Consider this statement, you cannot return something back to what it never was to begin with. As a child, you are taught right or wrong; and when wrong is committed, you weren’t given a pat on the back, you were punished. Your parents taught you that every decision has a consequence. Same goes for citizens; you learn the law when you are wrong so you don’t break it because it gives a sense of order. And when you do, it is like you are fully accepting the consequences because you knew what would happen and so therefore you must be punished.

The Hutterites essays

The Hutterites essays Out in the rugged West there are colonies of people called Hutterites who embody the pioneer spirit but live entirely removed from the modern world. The Hutterites are Anabaptist farmers and ranchers - close cousins of the Amish - who, after centuries of persecution in Europe, found religious freedom in North America in the 1870s. Their central belief in a kind of Christian communism informs everything they do. They work, worship, and eat together, and have no personal possessions. They do use computers and high-tech machinery; but they speak an old Austrian German dialect, sew their own clothes, and shun television, radio, or anything else that might let in the temptations of worldly materialism. Hutterites live rigidly structured lives that leave little room for individual expression, but they give this up willingly in exchange for the strong community support that promises spiritual salvation. For the Hutterites, the way to heaven lies through faith, communal living and a lot of hard work. The Hutterites live in farm communities, devoutly holding to the rules their founder laid down. In every Hutterite colony, the minister or spiritual leader is also the chief executive and he, along with an advisory board, makes the day-to-day decisions. Walt Whitman :: essays research papers

Walt Whitman Walt Whitman was born in a rural village on Long Island N.Y. on May, 31 1819. He went to school to five to six years, although he received most of his education from the literature he read. His first jobs consisted of being a printer and a school teacher. At the age of 27 he became editor of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, dismissed two years later because he had radically liberal views. In the early 1850’s he went back home to build houses with his father. Emerson believed Whitman wrote for the complete person, one that is willing to listen to one self. Whittier, however, judged Whitman’s work as â€Å"loose, lurid, and impious†. In 1855 the First edition of â€Å"Leaves of Grass†, this was classified as â€Å"poetry of barbarism† because it was radical, talking about things like sexuality, and it used exotic and vulgar language. His songs were songs not only of occupations but of sex and the body. He sand of masturbation, the sexual organism and the sexual act; he was one of the first poets to write of the â€Å"body electric,† of female eroticism, homosexuality love, and the anguish of repressed desire.(text book page 2846) He continued to revise this piece in the years 1856 and 1860. By the completion of â€Å"Leaves of Grass† it had 9 editions with more than 400 poems. In 1865 after working as a nurse in the Civil War he wrote â€Å"Drum-Taps†, he gathered in this into the fourth edition of â€Å"Leaves of Grass†. At 54 he suffered paralytic stroke and 19 years later he Died 19 years later in New Jersey. Whitman Became known in America as â€Å"Great Gray Poet†. Whitman gained more influence on America after his death. He was a modern man because he created his own rhythms using free verse. Leaves of grass was probably his most instrumental writing consisting of over 400 poems and would eventually become the most popular book of poetry ever written. Whitman's style was romantic and sensitive at a time when the US Civil War raged across the land with all its brutality and suffering. He greatly loved America, nonetheless, volunteering to tend the wounded in Washington, D.C., and writing a popular tribute to Abraham Lincoln, "O. Captain! My Captain!" A favorite of presidents ever since, Whitman wrote poetry praising America and touting the virtues of democracy. Revlon Case Study

Revlon is known as one of the best cosmetic companies of all time and is considered to be one of the worlds largest. The primary core products of Revlon are specialty skin products, salon-quality beauty and hair products to include its drugstore line of makeup. Revlon is based in New York and traded publicly. Their goal and vision has been to consistently provide quality beauty aids and products at a reasonable price. In the last few years Revlon has been struggling. With a debt almost at $2. 3 billion it has required the cosmetic giant to try and figure ways to reduce this debt. The research and development of Vital Radiance, a line of cosmetics for older women was announced on January 2006, this roll out was suppose to help revitalize sales and profit. The roll out of this product did not fare well and was not received by the market. The already existing competition had lower prices for their cosmetic products. These were being sold by major retailers like Wal-greens and Wal-mart, w hom already had other Revlon products on its shelves. This being the case the product line was suspended nine months after being introduced. It is projected that this set back is going to cost the company in the $100 millions. In addition to the Vital Radiance launch, there had been plans to release a new fragrance in 2006 also. This was delayed until the debt that was incurred from their cosmetic introduction could be restructured. After issuing a $185 million in stock to attempt to raise money to lessen the debt, MacAndrews & Forbes Holdings agreed to purchase stock and also agreed to purchase any stock not bought by current stakeholders. The following paragraphs below we will discuss how the future of Revlon is going to be determined by changes in demographic changes, social trends and how the competition adjust to the urrent economy and the response of internal factors that contribute to the success of the company. The demographic composition of the United States has impacted the cosmetic and personal care industry. A couple of major changes which have occurred that need to be considered, are the aging population and ethnic and racial population changes which are responsible for a major shift change. The period between 1946 and 1964 approximately 75 million Americans were born in the U. S. this number is extremely symbolic for the cosmetic industry. These Americans are referred to as the baby boomers and the major dilemma with the baby boomers they do not like to spend money. Research has determined that the baby boomer generation have not changed how they spend money and the women from this era are working longer than in past years. A couple of other factors to consider is the U. S. teen market along with the ethnic and racial make-up. According to data collected the teen market is expected to be at around 20 million by 2010, this teen market consist of teenagers between the ages of 12 and 19.Along with this growth is the African Americans which is the larg est of the ethnic groups is quickly being surpassed by the Hispanic population and this ethnic group is expected to be the largest by 2010 and should surpass 40. 5 million individuals. In addition to this multi-cultural growth being experienced throughout the United States, the non-hispanic is expected to shrink 68% by 2010. If Revlon can take advantage of this growth and expand to the foreign markets where analysis has shown that there will be a lot of opportunities for potential sales of cosmetic and personal care products throughout the world.Obviously with when there are positive aspects in business, there is always some type of negative influence that could potentially affect the overall business climate and growth of a company. In regards to Revlon, people are more socially, morally and fiscal conscious more than ever before. Older people unfortunately are a negative affect because they typically have limited less disposable income and have a less desire for look good items, t hey are set in their ways. Gas prices affect how people spend also and lastly the industry has always been under scrutiny for the abuse of animals that are used in cosmetic testing. So companies like Revlon have to always be very aware that consumer watch groups are constantly monitoring what companies like Revlon are doing. Knowing this and maintaining social responsibility, will prevent companies like Revlon from being run through the courts thereby ruining their reputation and any potential growth to get out debt. Considering all these factors it behooves Revlon to really push the world markets so as not to limit themselves to U. S. sales, which currently is experiencing a recession which has decreased the dollar value throughout the world, so by taking advantage or global business and maintaining U.S. sales Revlon should be able to show a positive net income in the near future. Revlon like many other cosmetic and skin care firms face competition in this industry that is out of th is world. So many companies want a piece of this market, that it appear to be saturated with all types of cosmetic companies. Women, obviously the largest consumer in the industry with men now desiring to maintain their youth prefer to shop at local drugstores, super values stores like Wal-mart and Kmart.Additional companies like Avon and the internet have made it easier for the consumer to save time and money by using these types of sales. For Revlon, not only do companies, home shopping and door to door type cosmetic firms, represent competition, but the major competitors such Procter and Gamble, Avon, Estee Lauder and L’Oreal are significant, that capture U. S. sales and foreign market sales. Others like specialty stores Sephora and Body Shop to include Victoria Secret’s and the Gap to name a few represent additional challenges. To add to the challenges currently facing Revlon, there is competition for the African market. Famous models and singers alike have develope d their own brands and capturing portions of the African market and advertise to the African American community. By studying and analyzing the cosmetic market it is essential for Revlon to look to other avenues to make themselves more attractive to the consumer. By investing into the company increasing their visibility in the social realm will be significant in attracting a larger consumer base.Revlon invested a great deal of money on research and how to provide better services to women. More than $25 million dollars has been spent thus far. Additionally by using familiar faces to assist in amplifying Revlon’s commitment to social responsibility they are attracting more people. Singers like Sheryl Crow, who actively participates on a board for Revlon that is responsible for research cures for cancer in addition Ms Crow being associated with the National Breast Cancer Coalition, which is also supported by Revlon truly magnifies the maturity of the firm to help the ommunity. Re vlon is committed to events that sponsor fund raising opportunities to find cures in addition to supporting agencies like the National Council of Negro Women, and New York Women in film is indicative to the commitment to social responsibility. The reorganization of management to save money annually has been implemented by David Kennedy who is the CEO and was selected in 2006. His previous experience as Coca-Cola executive and the previous CFO for Revlon made him a perfect fit for a company under stress. His plan to cut 8% of the Revlon workforce, which equates to about 250 positions, which is intended to save the company approximately $34 million dollars a year. By consolidating different functions throughout the company and reducing middle management allows for eht reduction in personnel. However, without a doubt when a company plans to save money, they have to spend money to get there. It is estimated that it will cost about $29 million dollars to restructure but as previously stat ed it is intended to save the company $34 million dollars annually thereafter.Once implemented it is essential to go after the market by changing or reorganizing marketing techniques. Marketing and advertising are key to the survival of Revlon. Revlon primary customers are the large merchandisers and chain drug stores. Although the debt is high Revlon has still maintained the development side of its organization and is still is main objective. Without changing, developing and designing they would fall behind the major competitors. In 2006 Revlon spent a little over $24 million dollars on research and development, but most importantly hired 170 people to accomplish this.Even through trying times, advertising continues to be the way to go and promote the company. Investing in popular faces to be spokespersons such as Halle Berry, Julianne Moore and Eva Mendez, etc. , is attractive to the consumer and by using a variety of women of different ages markets their products to young and mid dle aged alike. The current manufacturing and distribution of Revlon has allowed the company to pull their resources and consolidate facilities.By reducing the amount of distribution facilities has allowed for spoke and hub operations, which allows a company to cover more locations from a single vantage point. With its current locations Revlon is well suited to manage its distribution points. The financial outlook during the restructuring period did not fare well with a net loss of $50 million dollars due to this the restructuring program is ongoing. Revlon’s commitment to build a solid brand and improve their organizational commitment abilities is their life line.
